Think Aloud- Dawood Rehman

The user is 24 year old male. He was given several tasks to complete and the purpose was to evaluate the prototype.

*Navigate your way to the main menu.
The user is met with the start-up page and quickly presses on the screen to continue. After touching the screen on the first page the user is met with the second page and looks slightly surprised. “Eh…, what am I supposed to do here? I will just skip this step for now.” Our start-up page does not have any buttons so the user was probably an adept user of technology because he simply just pressed the screen to continue and did not look for a button to press on to continue. Furthermore the user seemed a bit annoyed by the fact that he had to fill in his preferences until he discovered the “skip” button.

*Find information about a restaurant.
“I really like the design, it is really simple and looks good. Ok so I guess I have to press on ‘Food”. The user then presses on “Food“ and picks the restaurant “Burger King” and the information is displayed. “This was really easy”. The user at first comes in contact with main menu and points out that he really likes the simplicity of the app and the design. He also pointed out that it was quite easy to navigate his way through the application to find a restaurant of his choice.

*Go back to the main menu
“Ok, done”. The user just pressed the back-button several times to come back to the main menu. He seemed somewhat tired while performing this task or rather annoyed.

*Find out information about a nightclub
The user seemed somewhat confused in the beginning but eventually pressed on “Entertainment” on the main-menu. He then pressed on “Night Clubs” and “Klubb Göta” respectively and the information such as the description of the club and the address of the club was displayed. “I really like that you have a button to open and display the location on the map”. He also seemed to like that you could simply press a button and the location of the club was shown on a map.

*Find out what is currently happening in Stockholm
“Well that is really easy”. The user simply presses on the news-button on the main menu and the news feed is displayed.

Post usage discussion with the user
Q: Did you find any of the tasks in particular more difficult than the others?
A: Yes, the one where I had to find a nightclub. Instead of naming the button on the main menu as “Entertainment” you should name it something else like “Activities”. Perhaps it is just me who got confused but anyway.

Q: Why did you skip the page where you could enter your preferences?
A: I just wanted it to go quick for now, there is no other reason than that. I think that it is a nice feature to have if you are really going to use the app and are not just testing it.

Q: What do you think of the main page of the application?
A: That page was really well made. I think the three buttons on the top are really good to have. I also think that the three buttons in the middle also makes it very easy to navigate your way to the right place. Perhaps you should change the name of the button that says “Entertainment” like I said before. I think this is a good prototype in my opinion.

Q: You seemed somewhat annoyed when I told you to go back to the main menu. Could you tell me why?
A: I was not really annoyed but you should maybe have a button so one can immediately go back to the main menu. I had to click back several times to go back there.

Q: Is there anything else that we need to change, remove or implement that you can think of right now?
A: Not really, I have already said the things I think that need to change. I really like the main menu so you should keep that. I know it is only a prototype but maybe add a few more choices of night clubs and restaurants and so on.
